What started as peaceful protests in Homs and spread to other cities and suburbans of Damascus, soon turned into a bloodthirsty oppression of these protests, and to the political opposition that has remained under the radar for its own survival.

You can imagine President Assad sitting in his presidential office tapping his fingers like a croupier serves the cards to the porker players. Ever growing reports from his subordinates of peaceful protests that didn't take to arms even when the orders of Syrian soldiers were drafted in to sort the problem out. How frustrating to a president who took office on the death of his father Hafez al-Assad that ruled Syria being the all encompassing brutal dictator he was. Tough shoes for Bashar al-Assad to fill, and because of the dictatorial regime his father created and presided with his friends and political allies, it cannot be broken by political means easily.

President Assad gave so much hope in Syria across the globe that it prompted a newly elected American President Obama to visit Syria to rewrite a new beginning and relationship between the two countries and the Anglo-Saxon western world. But the biggest problem as stated in the previous paragraph Assad had a regime that will run, and fill the boots of many greedy bureaucrats with him or without him. Yes Assad has power but coming from the minorities of minorities the Alwalites he too could be swallowed-up by this evil and corrupt regime to exist in the world.

President Assad has to be the tough guy and the one who orders repression without flickering his eyelids, as many beady eyes are fixated on his moves. The corruption within the Assad regime is rife, as - when, not if, it falls - many will be out of pocket and those already hiding money like Mafia gangsters for their quick exit when the curtains comedown will be the lucky ones. But many of the Assad subordinates will remain and they will be thankful if they have a court appearance but the fate of Colonel Gaddafi will be a the reminder of how this soap opera will play-out.

President Assad and his team of devil worshippers crowded round the president conference desk devising 'the plan' to get rid of those pesky protesters of causing many of the corrupted to wobble and seek an armed response.

Gandhi was right when it came to protesting and demonstrating against a regime, and one that will bring Assad and his henchmen crashing down, PEACEFUL protest. Imagine if the protesters sought to arm themselves, it would be easy to say 'these terrorists' are a threat to Syria's national security as President Assad would say to a packed chamber in the Syrian parliament. Worryingly even Western leaders would rally around President Assad with the Al Qaeda rhetoric and 'assist' Syrian secret police 'to round-up these terrorists.'

When the protests were spreading not only on the streets of Syria but all across the wonderful invention of the internet, things couldn't be kept secret. When Syrian authorities allowed hardened criminals to roam the street taking pot shots at the police and soldiers, stating these criminals are part of the protesters, this lie was soon exposed and many others, and so the truth has also turned on the Assad regime.

Even when these tactics didn't work and Assad and his bunch of thugs couldn't quell these peaceful protesters, and not only that sensible soldiers and leaders within the Syrian army started to defect as they knew it was wrong shooting peaceful unarmed men, women and children in comes the full might of the Syrian army.

With the defectors from the Syrian army now calling themselves the Free Syria Army and protecting the protesters from military aggression, and even taking hostile soldiers prisoners showing that military might is one thing but intelligence and military tactics is far superior, the opposition becoming more vocal and more public things couldn't have got more worse for the Assad regime.

Every night images of rough mobile phone footage is beamed to every household around the world of children being assassinated by highly trained snipers that are suppose to defend the civilians from foreign aggression prompt action was needed by the worlds most powerful.

The United Nations (UN) got involved with America, France, Britain and The Arab League the latter conducting monitoring of the situation and was later forced to abandon Syria because even the Syrian snipers targeted them, tabled a motion to deal with this most terrible of situations in Syria.

You know when the world is on a path of change and some sort of enlightenment when China and Russia vetoed a solution for Syria, the rest of the UN member countries were publicly enraged with giving some sort of perverted green light to President Assad and his cohorts to send in the cavalry and once and for all eliminate the troublesome protesters, and hunt down opposition leaders and members.

Why did China and Russia veto steps to try at the very least stop the slaughter of innocent and unarmed men, women and children?

China did the same when students wanted change in the '80's and were slaughtered on the orders of Dear Leader Mao in Tienanmen Square.

Russia has had the same kind of history under the Communist dictator Stalin, and successive leaders who held a tight grip on Russia and the Eastern Bloc of countries, not to mention Chechen and other parts of the southern parts of Russia that want full independence.

But here's the enlightenment part, what these countries were also protecting were their own interests, and they are the military trade deals that China and Russia profit from. So in order to protect their customer they will be the best of friends and veto this annoying situation the Assad regime find themselves in.

Why then the visits from Chinese and Russian diplomats?

Because the outrage that was levelled at these two countries, they had to be seen to express concern at what the Assad regime is doing and where it's going. You see if Assad is replaced then the new political powers will be.... less likely to want to do business and trade with both China and Russia. Not only that other Arab countries were publicly outraged and critical of the Chinese and Russian veto in the UN they could be frozen-out of the whole Middle Eastern region, and beyond as Muslim nations will follow the powerful nations like Saudi Arabia, so it would be detrimental for China and Russia.

In the old days and relevant now its not a good idea for superpowers like America, Russia, Britain and soon to join the club China to have overall power in the world. So in political jargon its called balance of power. What China and Russia thought that their veto in the UN would be seen as trying to balance the Middle East from a possible American, and Western dominance.

What's going to be the outcome for Syria in the months ahead?

There has been a new development and direction for Syria when The United States, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said that 'crimes against humanity' are taking place and that they will be investigated and arrest warrants, and prosecutions in The Hague will take place in the not to distant future, as the Assad regime starts to crumble within from this renewed pressure from Britain, France, United States, Germany and Russia and China have been distancing themselves from endorsing military action against unarmed civilians.

With renewed pressure from the major international nations, and the defection of Syrian soldiers and just the other day from the Deputy Oil & Gas Minister Abdo Hussameddin, which is helping the crumbling effect needed to disable the Assad regime, and make politicians, military leaders and other members of other governmental departments to be able to publicly speak-out their opinions.

When people know they will live beyond the current Assad regime then they will distance themselves and be protected by those in powerful positions and those in lesser rank. President Assad will then have to save himself by leaving, or face the prospect of dying in his country.

End Notes:

It's interesting that regimes especially those built on tyranny, extremism, and dictatorial basis will make the powerful, rich, and influential comfortable and secure. But as the years stroll on it ends-up being the tomb of the powerful, rich, and influential. Slowly the spiders web sucks these characters in and they become detached from the rest of their society. When the mood changes and they fail to realise their mistakes and their brutality they get a nasty surprise, that the masses stop asking how high to jump. When the military and secret police are used to oppress these 'pesky' irritants and find people have had enough, that the prospect of brutality and death are not the deterrents of yesterday. Though brave no nations hasn't escaped from those thinking of future generations, in a rather spiritual sense that I may not benefit but my children's, children will!
